Night at the Museum

See what the Rossland Museum summer students have been up to all summer!

Our awesome students have been working hard in all areas of the museum, and they have discovered so much that they want to share with you! Spend a special evening at the museum hearing some fascinating mining tales on a tour around the grounds with Callum, then go find Hannah to learn about fraud and counterfeiting and try a "golden" experiment! Gabe has been working hard on cataloguing maps and is excited to show off some of his favourite, rarely-shown maps from the collection, and Claire will be showcasing some rather odd art pieces from the International Order of the Odd Fellows.

We'll have an afternoon drop-in, family-friendly version of our presentations between 2:30-4:30pm - entry by donation.

The Evening event will be licensed, 19+, and limited to 50 people to ensure physical distancing measures - you must pre-register for the evening component here: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4693946

In a bonanza town there were inevitabley fraudsters and counterfeiters. RMDC Archives/Collections Assistant Hannah has been exploring the Rossland Miner newspapers this summer, as well as leading the Summer Snippets Saturday program at the Museum. She has tied her love of science and history together for her presentation and will lead you through a science experiment while sharing some surreptitious stories of fraud and counterfeiting in Rossland's early mining days.

Rossland has had its fair share of fraternal organizations and secret societies throughout its history. The museum happens to have a great collection of objects from the local chapter of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Our Collections Assistant Claire is excited to showcase some of the more interesting artwork of the Odd Fellows - one of Rossland's longest running fraternal orders!

Gabe - Archives Assistant
Did you know that the Rossland Museum has well over 1000 maps in its archival collection? These maps are rarely displayed - some are large, some are fragile. Our Archives Assistant Gabe has been cataloguing our map collection all summer and would like to show you some of his favourite maps - vertical projections of the famous War Eagle Mine spanning a decade at the turn of the 20th century - before they go back into storage!
