National Historic Places Day 2024

The Museum will be open by donation all week, 10 am to 6 pm July 10-17. Haven't gone on one of our guided tours yet? Now's your chance! We offer guided historical tours of the outdoor exhibits at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm daily through the summer - and on Fridays and Saturdays, the Gold Fever Follies will be on site to add some pizzaz to the 11 am tour. We're also having a photo contest to celebrate!

Recognizing k̓maʔrqn̓: Territory Sign Unveiling

Join us at the Rossland Museum from 4-6 pm on Friday, June 14th as we unveil a territory acknowledgement sign to recognize k̓maʔrqn̓ and the Sinixt people on whose unceded tmxʷúlaʔxʷ we live and work. We'll also be showing a new short film, Learning mxiɬp, in our theatre, and provide plenty of time for everyone to admire the sign and mix and mingle over snacks.

June Speaker Event: BATS! with Elodie Kuhnert

Join us at the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre at 5:30 pm on Thursday, June 6th for an exciting Speaker Series with Elodie Kuhnert. Elodie, the Kootenay Coordinator with the "Got Bats?" BC Community Bat Program, will help us discover the fascinating world of bats in an engaging presentation that explores their importance in our ecosystem. Learn all about bat biology, behaviour, and reproduction, and understand the critical role that bats play in our environment. We'll discuss why bats are facing threats and how we can help protect them during a fascinating evening in the mysterious world of bats!

Kim Deane and Lou Corrado were born and raised in Rossland, and since the 1940s, they've seen the city change and evolve to an extraordinary degree. These two long-time Rosslanders will take us on a fascinating and nostalgic journey through Rossland’s history, touching on the post-war period, the evolution of Cominco, the expansion of the skiing industry, evolving subcultures, and more! If you’re interested in Rossland’s history or you’re a long-time local looking to indulge in a little nostalgia (and maybe learn something new about your backyard!) then this is the event for you. Our March Speaker Series event is Thursday, March 28th at 6 pm - Entry is by donation and treats/refreshments will be provided.

Arts & Culture Festival - Sept 23-24 2023

Join us on the Museum lawn as we kick off Culture Days with our Arts & Culture Festival, September 23 and 24 from 12 to 4 pm all weekend. The Festival is an opportunity for our region’s local visual and performing artists to showcase their talents to the public as we celebrate the spectacular culture in our area with musical performances, artist demos, cultural presentations, and more. Wander about the museum property to check out Kootenay artisans and vendors and celebrate the beauty and creativity fostered in this region. Entry is free, but donations are always appreciated!

We're open by donation all day, with a variety of crafts, guided outdoor tours of the Upper Level at 11 am and 3 pm, and special displays - including our "ArtiFACT or ArtiFACTION" guessing game - to learn more about Rossland's history.
