2021 #AskACurator Day Staff Favourites!

AS PART OF #ASKACURATOR DAY, WE’VE ASKED OUR STAFF TO SHARE SOME OF THEIR FAVOURITE ARTIFACTS FROM THE COLLECTION!

For some, it was definitive, whereas others - like our Collections Manager - had a harder time narrowing it down. Keep reading to find out about a few of our favourite things!

Sarah - Research Manager

Our small collection of fire insurance maps have to be my favourite thing in the museum! These maps give a fantastic overview of what Rossland looked like during the particular year in one compacted location... where buildings and businesses were, street names and changes, and even building materials. I can look at these and find out several different forms of information in one location for many research requests as opposed to needing multiple sources.

Joelle - Museum Director

I narrowed it down to my favourite topic - hockey! I love the old wooden, straight-blade Warriors hockey stick full of signatures.

Fiona - Operations & Marketing Manager

I love our caboose. It’s one of the few objects you can climb into and explore in depth!

It's incredibly hard for me to narrow it down to one or two favourite pieces in our extensive collection. My favourite thing depends completely on what I'm working on that day! These are a few of the artifacts that I have fallen in love with recently.

Madison - Operations Assistant

Madison has taken quite a liking to one of our 1920s beaded purses. You can see this bag on display in the Hunter Brothers Store.

Kestra - Archives Intern

Kesta has only been with us for a short time, but is quite fond of this Munyon’s Inhaler bottle in the bottle room. Munyon’s offered homeopathic “remedies” for various diseases from the 1890s - 1920s.

Phoebe - Collections Intern

Phoebe has been working through entering catalogue forms into our database and this brooch has been her favourite piece so far! It’s definitely one of the more colourful pieces in our accessories collection.
