Veterans Week 2021 at the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre

JOIN US IN HONOURING OUR VETERANS AND THEIR LEGACY OF PEACE.

This year marks the 102nd observance of a day of remembrance. The first occurred in 1919, one year after the hostilities of the First World War ended. A mere 21 years later, the world would be thrown into chaos once again as World War II was declared on 1 September 1939. Rosslanders made up over 600 of the 1.6 million Canadians that served in these two global conflicts. Countless more would volunteer at home, contributing however they could. This ranged from rationing, to salvage committees, to helping with the local A.R.P. (air raid precautions) chapter.

Throughout November, the RMDC will have temporary exhibitions on Rossland's war effort in the J.D. McDonald Hall and at the Rossland Public Library. Visit the RMDC to learn more about Rossland’s overseas efforts and the Library for Rossland’s homefront activities.

We are once again doing a community writing campaign to show Rossland's veterans our appreciation. Stop by the RMDC or the Rossland Public Library to write a postcard or colour a picture for us to send to our local veterans on Remembrance Day.

The writing stations will be available until November 11, but to help us ensure our veterans receive your messages before Remembrance Day, please visit one of the writing stations before November 6th.

Writing Station Availability:

  • Museum: Oct 26-on

  • Library: Nov 2-on

IF YOU WOULD PREFER TO DO THIS ACTIVITY AT HOME, YOU CAN PRINT THESE IMAGES AND DROP THEM OFF AT THE MUSEUM OR LIBRARY:

MAKE SURE TO DROP OFF YOUR FINISHED LETTERS AND COLOURING PAGES AT THE MUSEUM TO BE DELIVERED WITH THE REST OF THE LETTERS NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 6TH.
