Celebrate Canada!
The last half of June is jam-packed with activities, Online events, and ideas to celebrate Canada before the big day - Canada Day!
The Museum is open with free entry on each of the Celebrate Canada Days:
June 21st - National Indigenous Peoples Day
June 24th - St. Jean Baptiste Day
June 27th - Canadian Multiculturalism Day
July 1st - Canada Day
And one more special day - July 4th - National Historic Places Day
Here are some ways to celebrate From Home:
June is Indigenous History Month - check out our full page for resources, activities, and videos to learn more about the Indigenous, Metis, and Inuit peoples of Canada - in particular, the Sinixt Nation whose land we live, work, and play in every day.
June 21st - Indigenous Peoples Day
Stop into the Museum from June 21st to the end of the month to design our own basket after learning about traditional basketry of the region.
We also have little craft kits from Canadian Heritage to build your own Metis Fiddle, Inuit Inukshuk, or Indigenous Canoe to take home.
June 24th - St. Jean Baptiste Day
Stop in to the Museum to decorate your own fleur de lis for a community mural!
And between June 20th-27th, check out this awesome online/at home/around town event from the West Kootenay Francophone Association
The National Arts Centre has also developed some francophone activities here: https://nac-cna.ca/en/stories/story/a-continent-to-explore
June 27th - Canadian Multiculturalism Day
Celebrate multiculturalism with us by colouring your own family emblem/crest between 10am & 6pm - free entry (donation welcome).
July 1st - Canada Day
Stop into the museum for some fun activities throughout the day - 10am to 6pm - free entry (donations welcome).
We've also set up a fun scavenger hunt of sorts around town, at local businesses and on your favourite hikes - find the most cards to redeem for an annual pass to the Museum!
Stop in to Mountain Nugget Chocolate Company and Rossland Beer Company for specials throughout Canada Day! #SupportLocal
And last - but definitely not least - the fireworks are ON! Look to the skies at 9:30pm for a spectacular show off of the iconic RED Mountain Resort! Thank you to Seven Summits Service and Darrin Rossi for helping us make this happen.
If you can't make it to the celebrations or to explore around town, you can still have fun at home with some of these at home activities.
At Home Activities:
Take a tour of Turtle Island to discover some interesting facts about First Nations, Inuit and Métis culture!
Make a few Canada Day themed crafts with materials at home thanks to the Canadian Museum of HIstory: A shaker, a wand, or garland
Canadian Mint - Download Colouring Coins - You’ll find some beautiful coins eagerly awaiting your colouring skills (some for kids and some for adults)
