New Outreach Exhibits!
From a new play highlight in our Rossland Light Opera Players outreach exhibit at the Prestige Mountain Resort to two Veterans Week-themed exhibits, our Collections/Exhibit team has had a busy month prepping THREE new exhibits for you!
Behind the Curtain: The History of the Rossland Light Opera Players continues to explore some of the most memorable productions in the thespians’ extensive history. The exhibit now features a highlight of My Fair Lady, which was arguably one of their most challenging performances. This exhibit has been developed in partnership with the RLOP and features textiles from their collection.
My Fair Lady will be the play featured in the Prestige Mountain Resorts front window until the end of December.
For November, the Rossland Public Library is hosting one of our two Veterans Week exhibits - Honouring Our Veterans , which features the story and medals of Benjamin Allen, a young private who died during the Battle of Vimy Ridge. While Allen was only in Rossland a short time, spending most of this short life in Toronto, his family requested that his military medals be donated to the museum, and they are some of our most-prized collections items.
The Library also has a Veterans Appreciation writing station, where you can colour a picture or write a letter that will get sent to one of Rossland’s veterans.
This exhibit will be on location at the Rossland Public Library for the Month of November.
Service and Sacrifice: Rossland’s Contribution to the Second World War explores some of the Rossland groups and people that participated in WWII. The exhibit explores two Rossland veterans who did not survive the war, the Rossland branches of Air Raid Protection (A.R.P.), and the Red Cross. Featuring artifacts from the A.R.P. as well as archival reproductions, Service and Sacrifice will be on display in the Museum’s JD McDonald Hall through November.
Service and Sacrifice is our Collections Intern Tyler’s first solo exhibit! While he has been helping out with the research for exhibits over the past couple of months, this is the first time he has done an exhibition from start to finish completely by himself!
