2025 BC Heritage Week

Join us in celebrating Rossland’s heritage this BC Heritage Week, February 17th-23rd!

Collections Coordinator Hannah Klemmensen developed our 2025 Winter Carnival outreach exhibit Thrills and Spills, which will be on display at the Museum through Heritage Week!

This year’s Heritage Week: Pastimes in Past Times celebrates the many ways people spent their leisure time throughout history, exploring how these activities have contributed to the cultural fabric of today - so we’re diving into some of our winter sports history!

We’re celebrating with admission by donation all week! Tuesday, February 18th to Sunday, February 23rd - open 10 am to 5 pm

Stop by the Museum to explore our exhibits, including our brand-new temporary exhibit about the Winter Carnival bobsled races: Thrills and Spills.

Check out the Cominco Theatre for a special treat - we’ll be showing video interview footage (approx 37 min) from our Digital Museums Canada exhibit Gold Mining to Gold Medals: A Century of Ski Racing in Rossland.

Renewal Phase II: Lifestyle Exhibit

The 2025 BC Heritage Week theme Pastimes in Past Times is the perfect opportunity to share some more information about our upcoming Renewal Project! You may have heard about the Mine Tunnel exhibit that is the cornerstone of Phase II, but another exciting piece of the project is the development of a new Lifestyle exhibit. This exhibit tells the story of Rossland’s evolution from a mining town to a recreation and culture hub that takes pride in its history.

One side of the exhibit will display the evolution of skiing culture in Rossland, showing how miners would ski in their spare time, and how Rossland evolved into a ski resort town with locals who were devoted to the sport. The other side of the exhibit will highlight other sports that are popular in town, such as hockey, golf, mountain biking, hiking, and more. A replica cabin with one of Rossland’s signature stoves will tell the story of Rossland’s many ski clubs and back-country/cabin culture.

Do you have photos, artifacts, or stories to contribute to this exhibit? Please get in touch at artifacts@rosslandmuseum.ca!
